National Cancer Awareness Day was observed on November 7, 2025, the birth anniversary of Madame Marie Curie, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist whose research on radium and polonium laid the foundation for radiation therapy in cancer treatment. The day has been observed annually since 2014 when it was announced by Dr Harsh Vardhan.

India accounts for 7.2% of global cancer cases with breast, lip and oral cavity, cervix uteri and lung cancers among the leading sites. According to ICMR data, early detection can improve cancer survival rates by up to 80% for breast and cervical cancers. Public hospitals, cancer institutes, and NGOs organised free screening camps and awareness campaigns across urban and rural areas.
