India Hosts World Para Athletics Championships 2025 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi
The 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships (WPAC) 2025 had its opening ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, on September 25, 2025, with the competition running from September 27 to October 5. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya officially declared the championships open. More than 2,200 participants from 104 nations took part, with athletes competing in 186 medal events.
India became the fourth Asian nation to host the event, after Qatar (2015), UAE (2019), and Japan (2024). India fielded its largest-ever para athletics contingent of 73 athletes. The competition programme featured 186 medal events (101 men's, 84 women's, and 1 mixed), which was 15 more than the Kobe 2024 edition. This was the largest Para sport event ever held in India and the first time the championships were held in South Asia.
