National Press Day marks the anniversary of the Press Council of India. Its objective is to provide an internal self-regulatory mechanism for the print media so that free and responsible reporting is protected. The Council is also linked with preserving press freedom, raising the standards of newspapers and news agencies, and advising the legislature and other authorities.
