India was conferred the prestigious International Social Security Association (ISSA) Award 2025 for 'Outstanding Achievement in Social Security' on October 3, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The recognition was for India's significant progress in extending social security coverage to unorganised sector workers through schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) and the e-Shram portal, which has registered over 30 crore unorganised workers. The ISSA, founded in 1927 and headquartered in Geneva, is the world's principal international organisation for social security institutions. The award recognised India's innovative use of digital platforms for delivering social protection, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY). This underscores the success of India's social security architecture under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
