World Fisheries Day 2025: India Launches National Framework on Traceability in Fisheries
India celebrated World Fisheries Day on November 21, 2025 at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi with the theme 'India's Blue Transformation: Strengthening Value Addition in Seafood Exports'. A National Framework on Traceability in Fisheries and Aquaculture was launched along with the Standard Operating Procedure for Mariculture (2025).
Key achievements: fish production increased from 95.79 lakh tonnes (2013-14) to 197.75 lakh tonnes (2024-25); marine product exports increased 11.08% to USD 0.90 billion in October 2025; India is the world's second-largest fish producer and ranks second in aquaculture production.
