India announced the launch of Bharat Taxi, the country's first cooperative-driven national ride-hailing platform, through a partnership between NeGD (MeitY) and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd. with an initial capital of ₹300 crore, managed by Amul MD Jayen Mehta.

Unlike private cab companies, every driver becomes a part-owner. Instead of 20-25% commission cuts, drivers pay only a nominal membership fee. The pilot starts in Delhi in November 2025 with 650 driver-owners, expanding to 5,000 vehicles across metros by December and 20 cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bhopal, Lucknow, and Jaipur by 2026. Key features include UPI/card payments, real-time tracking, SOS, multilingual support, and standardised pricing without surge charges.
