Legendary Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal passed away late on November 13, 2025 in Mumbai at the age of 98. She was born on February 24, 1927 in Lahore. Her place in Indian cinema is especially important because she made her debut with Neecha Nagar (1946), remembered as the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.

Kaushal's career spanned seven decades. That makes her a significant link between the pre-independence phase of Indian cinema and modern Bollywood. For exam preparation, the development is useful under culture, current affairs and personality-based questions, especially where the focus is on Indian cinema, international film recognition or major achievements of artists. In national current affairs, such personalities also help learners connect a long history of an art form with one identifiable name.

Among her major honours, she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1956 for Biraj Bahu. She also received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. Her final film was Laal Singh Chaddha (2022). For RAS/UPSC-style preparation, this update should not be treated only as an obituary. It can be linked with static GK on Indian cinema: person, birthplace, debut film, major awards and final known film are all prelims-type facts.
