Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026 on February 16, a five-day event at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, running from February 16-21. The Summit brought together 20 national leaders, 45 ministerial-level delegations, and major tech executives from companies including Google, OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and Anthropic.

India announced the launch of its first set of sovereign AI models trained on Indian datasets to address linguistic diversity and sector-specific challenges. Other announcements included expansion of national computing facilities with 20,000 additional GPUs, rollout of AI labs across 500 universities, and the India AI Impact Expo with 850+ exhibitors across 10 pavilions. The Summit attracted approximately 6 lakh in-person attendees and 9 lakh virtual viewers from 100+ countries.
