The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2025 was awarded jointly to Susumu Kitagawa (Kyoto University, Japan), Richard Robson (University of Melbourne, Australia), and Omar M. Yaghi (UC Berkeley, USA) 'for the development of metal-organic frameworks'. The announcement was made on October 8, 2025.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are molecular constructions with large porous spaces through which gases and chemicals can flow. MOFs have applications in harvesting water from desert air, capturing carbon dioxide, storing toxic gases, and catalysing chemical reactions. India's CSIR labs have been working on MOF-based CO2 capture systems, making this prize relevant to India's clean energy goals.
