Udaipur, the 'City of Lakes', received the prestigious Ramsar Wetland City accreditation during the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards and Wetland Cities Recognition Ceremony organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC). Union Minister Bhupender Yadav presented the certificate. Udaipur and Indore became the first Indian cities to gain international recognition as Ramsar-accredited Wetland Cities.

Udaipur is surrounded by five major wetlands — Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai. The designation was formalized at the 15th Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP15) held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where 31 new Wetland Cities were designated globally. This recognition highlights Udaipur's commitment to wetland conservation and sustainable urban planning.
