Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, stated on December 12 that India is betting on generative AI to reshape drug discovery. Speaking about technologies like PathGennie, he highlighted how India's open-source push and computational biology capabilities are positioning the country as a leader in affordable pharmaceutical innovation. India's pharmaceutical sector, valued at over USD 50 billion, stands to benefit from AI-driven approaches that could reduce drug development timelines from the typical 10-12 years. The government is investing in computational infrastructure at national research labs to support these efforts.
