On September 5, 2025, Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay and his spouse visited the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, becoming the first Prime Minister of any foreign nation to pay obeisance to Ram Lalla at the newly built temple. The Bhutanese PM was given a red carpet welcome upon arrival at around 9:30 AM. PM Narendra Modi welcomed the visit, calling it a reflection of the special bond between India and Bhutan. The visit marked a historic moment in India-Bhutan relations and highlighted the deepening cultural and spiritual ties between the two nations. This was part of PM Tobgay's broader four-day India visit (September 3-6) which also included stops at Rajgir and Bodh Gaya in Bihar.
