India's Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced at COP30 in Belem, Brazil that India would declare its revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) till 2035; the UNFCCC registry now records India's NDC for 2031-2035 as active on 24 April 2026. India is among 76 countries that missed earlier deadlines (February and September) for updated NDC submissions. By end of COP30, 119 countries representing 74% of global emissions had submitted new national commitments.

India declared the summit a 'significant milestone in advancing equity and climate justice'. However, India dropped 13 spots to rank 23rd on the Climate Change Performance Index 2026. On a positive note, India met its renewable energy targets five years early.
