Rajasthan's tableau 'The Golden Touch of the Desert' showcased the centuries-old Usta art of Bikaner at the 77th Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2026, in New Delhi. In the Popular Choice category determined by a nationwide public poll on the MyGov platform, Gujarat secured first place, Uttar Pradesh second, and Rajasthan third. The tableau featured a rotating sculpture of a Ravanhatta-playing artist, framed artworks, and a majestic camel statue with a rider — all adorned with exquisite golden Usta art motifs. Usta art, practised predominantly in Bikaner, is renowned for its intricate gold inlay work on camel hide, combining Mughal and Rajput artistic traditions. Bikaner's Usta artisans received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for this craft, recognising its unique regional origin. The 77th Republic Day Parade was particularly significant as EU Presidents António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen were the Guests of Honour, alongside the India-EU Summit held the following day. The parade and associated DRDO display featured defence systems including LR-AShM, Arjun Main Battle Tank, Nag Missile System (NAMIS-II), Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System, BrahMos, Akash, Battle Field Surveillance Radar and Anti Tank Guided Missile. The Indian Navy, which won the best marching contingent award, showcased its indigenous naval capabilities including INS Vikrant. Maharashtra's tableau won the best tableau award in the jury-selected category. Republic Day parades serve as a powerful platform for states to project their cultural heritage at a national and international stage.
