The Locust Warning Organisation (LWO) headquartered in Jodhpur has intensified desert locust monitoring across Rajasthan's western districts following above-normal September rainfall in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur. The LWO has deployed 43 field teams using vehicle-mounted sprayers and drones for surveillance.

September rains create favourable breeding conditions for desert locusts (Schistocerca gregaria) in the Thar Desert region. India's LWO, established in 1939 and one of the oldest in the world, coordinates with Pakistan, Iran, and FAO for cross-border swarm tracking. Rajasthan's agriculture department has issued advisories to farmers in affected districts about protective measures for standing kharif crops.
