India announced its target to build a fully indigenous solar manufacturing ecosystem by 2028, covering modules, cells, wafers, and ingots. The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy made the announcement, backed by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme with ₹24,000 crore in government support. The initiative aims to reduce India's dependence on imported solar components — currently dominated by Chinese suppliers — and create domestic manufacturing jobs. The plan aligns with India's target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and its commitments under the Paris Agreement.
