A UN Road Safety Financing Project was rolled out in four Indian states — Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Assam — to build capacity for implementing effective road safety action plans. The project aims to reduce road accident fatalities by 50% by 2030 in line with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

Rajasthan recorded over 14,000 road accident fatalities in 2024-25, among the highest in India. The project will focus on high-risk corridors including NH-48 (Jaipur-Udaipur), NH-8 (Delhi-Jaipur), and district roads in western Rajasthan with poor lighting and road markings. Training for traffic police, engineering interventions, and post-crash response systems are key components.
