Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase 2, paving the way for a major urban transport expansion in the state capital. The project proposes a new 42.80 km metro rail corridor — the Orange Line — connecting Todi Mod to Prahaladpura with 36 stations, at an estimated cost of ₹13,600 crore.

The announcement was made while replying to the Finance and Appropriation Bill in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, where the CM committed to laying the foundation stone for Phase 2 soon. The project is now awaiting central government clearance and Union Cabinet approval, which is a mandatory step before construction can commence.

Jaipur Metro Phase 1 currently operates two lines: Phase 1A (Mansarovar to Chandpole, 9.25 km) and Phase 1B (Chandpole to Badi Chaupar, 2.35 km). Phase 2 would multiply the network's reach more than three times, extending connectivity across key residential, commercial, and industrial corridors of Jaipur.

The CM also indicated that the government is exploring metro expansion to rapidly developing areas including Jagatpura and Vaishali Nagar. Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has been directed to fast-track technical studies and land acquisition processes.

The project is significant for Rajasthan's urban development agenda under Viksit Rajasthan 2030. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion, cut vehicular pollution, and provide affordable last-mile connectivity for the estimated 40 lakh residents in Jaipur's expanded urban area.

For RAS aspirants, Jaipur Metro Phase 2 is relevant to topics of urban governance, state infrastructure policy, public-private partnership models, and environmental sustainability in city planning.
