India and Namibia held the 5th round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi on 19-20 January 2026. In this meeting, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in health, Digital Public Infrastructure, agriculture, defence and critical minerals. The factual scope of the update is bilateral, but its exam relevance comes from its links with India-Africa relations, Global South cooperation and strategic resource security.
For prelims, three facts are direct: this was the 5th India-Namibia Foreign Office Consultations; the venue was New Delhi; and the main cooperation areas were health, Digital Public Infrastructure, agriculture, defence and critical minerals. The two countries also reiterated support for UN Security Council reform and South-South cooperation. This makes the update useful for international relations as well as science and technology, because Digital Public Infrastructure and critical minerals are recurring current-affairs themes.
For mains, the scope is wider. The Ministry of External Affairs describes India-Namibia relations as warm and cordial, and notes that the Namibian people and leadership view India as a dependable and trusted friend. India provides scholarships to Namibians under capacity-building programmes and also offers training slots for defence personnel. In digital payments, the two sides have a UPI technology licensing agreement. In the mineral sector, the 3rd meeting of the Joint Working Group on Mineral and Mining Sector was held on 30 September 2025. Against this background, the 5th Foreign Office Consultations are relevant for RAS and UPSC themes such as India-Africa partnership, multilateral reform, defence cooperation, digital governance and mineral security.
