The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme completed eleven years on January 22, 2026, having been launched on the same date in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Panipat, Haryana. Over the decade-plus of implementation, the flagship programme has demonstrated measurable progress across multiple indicators of girl child welfare and women's empowerment.

The most cited achievement is the improvement in Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB), which has risen from 918 girls per 1,000 boys at the time of the scheme's launch to 929 girls per 1,000 boys as of the latest 2024-25 data. This improvement reflects a shift in societal attitudes towards girl children, driven by multi-ministry awareness campaigns, community outreach, and targeted interventions in gender-imbalanced districts.

In education, the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for girls at the secondary level has improved from 75.51% to 80.2% in 2024-25, indicating that more girls are now staying in school through the secondary stage. Institutional deliveries rose from 61% in 2014-15 to over 97.3% by 2023-24, reducing maternal and infant mortality by ensuring skilled attendance at birth.

A major financial empowerment milestone is the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), a dedicated savings scheme for girl children under BBBP, which has accumulated over 4.53 crore accounts opened. The scheme offers tax benefits and competitive interest rates to encourage long-term savings for girl children's education and marriage expenses.

Rajasthan has been a key implementation state for BBBP, with focused interventions in districts such as Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, and Karauli — historically among the worst-performing in child sex ratios. State-level campaigns have complemented central initiatives, and Rajasthan's progress has been highlighted as a model for other states in the western region.

BBBP is jointly implemented by three ministries: Women and Child Development, Health and Family Welfare, and Education, reflecting its multi-sectoral approach to tackling gender discrimination at its root.
