The Rajasthan Cabinet, in the same meeting held on February 24, 2026, took another significant administrative decision by constituting the Revenue Intelligence and Economic Offences Directorate, officially abbreviated as RRIED. The new body replaces the earlier State Revenue Intelligence Directorate (SRID), which had been functioning under the state government with a mandate to check revenue leakages and economic irregularities.
RRIED has been designed with a sharper mandate and expanded jurisdiction. Its primary responsibilities include investigating and taking action against economic crimes, tax evasion, financial fraud, and illicit trade at the state level. The directorate will coordinate with central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), and the GST Intelligence wing to ensure seamless tracking of cross-border economic offences.
The decision to upgrade and rename the earlier directorate reflects the state government's recognition that economic crimes have grown in sophistication and scale, requiring a dedicated, well-resourced enforcement body. Tax evasion in sectors such as mining, real estate, sand, and the informal economy has been a persistent challenge for Rajasthan's revenue administration.
RRIED will also focus on intelligence-based operations, using data analytics and inter-departmental coordination to identify patterns of financial fraud before they escalate. The directorate is expected to work closely with the Commercial Tax Department, the Mining Department, and the state police's Economic Offences Wing.
The constitution of RRIED is a significant step in strengthening Rajasthan's fiscal governance architecture. By creating a dedicated body with a clear legal mandate, the state aims to plug revenue leakages, deter financial crime, and improve overall compliance among businesses operating in Rajasthan.
