India and Australia signed three major defence agreements on October 9, 2025, during the inaugural Australia-India Defence Ministers' Dialogue (AIDMD) held in Canberra. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh became the first Indian Defence Minister to visit Australia since 2013, meeting with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles. The three agreements cover: (1) an Information Sharing Arrangement to enhance real-time intelligence and operational data exchange between both militaries; (2) an Implementing Arrangement on Mutual Submarine Rescue Support and Cooperation, reflecting the strategic importance of maritime domains; and (3) the establishment of Joint Staff Talks as a forum for joint exercises, operations, and interoperability across all military domains.

Both nations agreed to institutionalise the Defence Ministers' Dialogue as an annual event and discussed a Joint Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap. The agreements are significant in the context of the Indo-Pacific strategic environment, particularly China's growing military assertiveness. Both ministers also condemned the April 2025 Pahalgam terrorist attack and pledged joint action against terrorism.
