The Government of India highlighted the IndiaAI Mission in January 2026 as a flagship national initiative backed by an investment of over ₹10,372 crore and the empanelment of more than 38,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) through AI service providers. The mission is designed to position Artificial Intelligence as a key driver of inclusive growth, innovation, and digital governance in India. Components of the mission include building an AI startup ecosystem, establishing AI research centres, developing AI applications in health, education, and agriculture, and creating data and computation infrastructure for safe and trustworthy AI. Rajasthan is set to host the Regional AI Impact Conference in Jaipur in January 2026 — a preparatory event for the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) stated that AI is integral to India's Viksit Bharat@2047 vision. The IndiaAI Mission also focuses on making AI tools available in Indian languages to ensure equitable access across linguistic communities. India's push to build indigenous compute capacity through this mission is seen as a strategic move to reduce dependence on foreign cloud infrastructure and create a sovereign AI ecosystem.
