MoHUA Launches 'Swachh Shehar Jodi' — 72 Mentor Cities Paired with 200 Mentee Cities
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the Swachh Shehar Jodi (SSJ) initiative on September 27, 2025, a structured mentorship programme under Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (SBM-U). Union Minister Manohar Lal launched the programme in Sonipat, Haryana, with Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini in attendance.
SSJ pairs 72 mentor cities with approximately 200 mentee cities based on Swachh Survekshan rankings. Nearly 300 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between mentor and mentee cities. A 100-day programme has been launched to showcase the impact of city-to-city mentorship, with each pair developing collaborative action plans with defined milestones focused on experience sharing and knowledge transfer in urban waste management. Results will be assessed in Swachh Survekshan 2026.
