The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 46,640 smuggled Chinese firecrackers worth ₹4.82 crore at Nhava Sheva port in Maharashtra under its ongoing 'Operation Fire Trail'. The firecrackers were concealed behind a superficial layer of garments to mislead customs checks. One person — M.A.S. Pothiyawala from Junagadh, Gujarat — was arrested. This was part of a larger nationwide crackdown: DRI had earlier seized 83,520 Chinese firecrackers worth ₹5.01 crore at Tuticorin port (Oct 14-18), where goods were mislabelled as engineering items. Operation Fire Trail targets the illegal import of hazardous foreign-origin firecrackers that violate India's trade and safety regulations.
