The Ministry of Finance said on 3 May 2026 that Shri Surjit Bhujabal, Member for compliance management and zonal member in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, inaugurated the new GST Bhawan at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The inauguration took place in the presence of Shri Kul Prakash Singh, Chief Commissioner, CGST and Central Excise, Guwahati Zone, and Shri Shyam Kanu Mahanta, Commissioner, CGST and CX, Itanagar.

The GST Bhawan at Niti Vihar, Itanagar, has been established as a modern office complex for the Itanagar Commissionerate under CBIC. The official release described it as a dedicated taxpayer facilitation centre meant to strengthen service delivery, improve accessibility and promote ease of compliance. Shri Bhujabal said GST's success lies not merely in enforcement but in trust, voluntary compliance and a collaborative partnership between taxpayers and the administration. He added that the building would be a centre of facilitation, dialogue and mutual confidence, not just an office.

The release also gave Arunachal Pradesh's GST performance. Revenue collection in the State reached Rs 526 crore during FY 2025-26, registering 29.4% growth over the previous year, among the highest in the country. Officials linked this growth to improved compliance behaviour and enhanced trust in the GST ecosystem. Shri Kul Prakash Singh said infrastructure creation must translate into improved taxpayer experience and a cooperative compliance framework. The release noted that this is the third GST Bhawan in the North Eastern region and that outreach and awareness programmes would be conducted across the State to widen the tax base and strengthen taxpayer engagement.
