Following the Learjet 45XR crash at Baramati that killed Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and four others, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grounded four aircraft operated by VSR Ventures and launched a comprehensive safety audit. The investigation will review the aircraft's maintenance records, crew qualifications, standard operating procedures, and the operational decisions made during the approach. The 16-year-old Learjet 45XR crashed during its second approach in dense fog and low visibility conditions. The Pawar family, led by nephew MLA Rohit Pawar, demanded an FIR be filed. The preliminary DGCA report is due by February 28, 2026. Aviation safety experts called for stricter regulations for charter operations at smaller airports.
