The Ministry of Panchayati Raj launched 'PANCHAM' (Panchayat Assistance and Messaging Chatbot) on January 25, 2026, on the eve of Republic Day, establishing a first-of-its-kind direct two-way digital bridge between the Central Government and over 30 lakh Elected Representatives and Panchayat Functionaries. The chatbot was developed in collaboration with UNICEF.
PANCHAM operates on WhatsApp and supports 22 Indian languages. It enables panchayat leaders to access information on government schemes, submit feedback, flag local issues, and receive real-time policy updates. The government can push out advisories and urgent messages directly. The initiative aims to reduce procedural complexity and enhance grassroots governance.
