The Rajasthan state tourism department launched the simplified 'Rajasthan Homestay (Paying Guest House) Scheme-2026' with a new policy to ease licensing, raise room limits, and boost rural tourism, self-employment, and local incomes. The maximum rooms per residential unit has been increased from five to eight, with a maximum bed capacity of 24.

The licensing process has been made digital and faster. The scheme aims to promote experiential tourism in rural Rajasthan, allowing tourists to stay with local families and experience traditional culture, cuisine, and crafts. The move is expected to generate livelihood opportunities for thousands of rural households.
