The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (AJNIFM) on September 24, 2025, to strengthen capacity building in public procurement. The MoU aims to train government officials across Union and State Ministries, PSUs, and autonomous bodies on the effective use of the GeM platform.
GeM, launched in 2016, has emerged as India's primary digital procurement platform for government buyers and sellers. By September 2025, the portal had crossed a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹4 lakh crore — a major milestone reflecting its growing scale and adoption. GeM has over 1.6 crore registered sellers and service providers, and handles procurement across more than 10,000 product and service categories.
AJNIFM, located in Faridabad, Haryana, is under the Ministry of Finance and focuses on financial management training for government officials. This collaboration will enable structured training programmes, e-learning modules, and certification courses for procurement officers, improving compliance, transparency, and efficiency in government purchasing.
The partnership is significant from a governance perspective as it institutionalises GeM usage and reduces leakages in government procurement. For RPSC RAS candidates, this topic is relevant under economy, governance, and digital India themes. The GeM platform also promotes MSME and startup participation in government contracts, aligning with the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
