The Rajasthan government approved the development of six cities — Mandawa, Khatu Shyamji, Bhiwadi, Alwar, Bikaner, and Bharatpur — as Clean and Green Eco-Cities under a proposal by Jaipur Smart City Limited (JSCL). The initiative is part of the 2025-26 state budget announcement to develop over a dozen Eco-Cities in three years with an allocation of ₹900 crore. The programme focuses on sustainable urban infrastructure, green mobility, waste management, and pollution reduction. Mandawa (Jhunjhunu) and Khatu Shyamji (Sikar) are key pilgrimage and heritage towns expected to benefit from eco-friendly urban upgrades, boosting religious tourism in Rajasthan.
