Alwar district in Rajasthan has become the first district in India to achieve 100% insurance coverage under the 'Insurance for All by 2047' initiative — a joint programme of the Government of India and IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) under the Ministry of Finance. The milestone was reported around February 6, 2026.

The achievement was preceded by systematic door-to-door surveys across nine villages — Bhulla Ka Bas, Bichpuri, Palankheda, Antapada, Hanumanta, Kalyanpura, Morodkhurd, Kodalka, and Lalpur — identifying 1,367 uninsured individuals above the age of 10. Insurance premiums for all eligible adults were funded by a non-governmental organisation, with policies issued by the government-owned United India Insurance Company Ltd., ensuring zero financial burden on beneficiaries.

The 'Insurance for All by 2047' roadmap aims to provide every Indian citizen with appropriate life, health, and property insurance by the centenary year of Independence. Alwar's model — combining community surveys, NGO funding, and state infrastructure — presents a replicable template for achieving universal insurance penetration in rural India. The achievement comes in the context of the recently enacted Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Act, 2025, which allows 100% FDI in insurance and came into force on February 5, 2026.
