Parliament passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, formally confirming Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh. The bill ends years of uncertainty over the state''s capital that began after the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh in 2014 when Hyderabad was designated as the joint capital for a transitional period.

The previous YSRCP government under Jagan Mohan Reddy had proposed a three-capital model with legislative, executive, and judicial functions split between Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool respectively. The TDP-led NDA government under Chandrababu Naidu reversed this decision and pushed for Amaravati as the single capital. The parliamentary confirmation provides legal certainty for infrastructure investments and master planning. Amaravati is being developed on the banks of the Krishna River, with a planned investment of over ₹50,000 crore for the capital region development.
