President Droupadi Murmu launched SOAR, the Skilling for AI Readiness initiative, and the #SkillTheNation Challenge under it on January 1, 2026 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, New Delhi. On the same occasion, she virtually inaugurated the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur, Odisha and conferred AI certificates on students and MPs. The core purpose of the initiative is to democratize AI education and prepare India’s workforce for an AI-driven future economy. Its scope is national, making it relevant beyond one state.
For exam preparation, this update can be used for points on skill development, access to AI education and workforce readiness. The science and technology angle focuses on AI education, future work patterns and the need for new skills. In Prelims, direct factual questions may come from the initiative name, launch date, venue, linked challenge, the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur and the AI certificate component. In Mains, the same development can be used in answers on skill development, human-resource readiness and technology-led economic change.
For static GK linkage, this update helps connect education, skill development and government efforts around AI. For RAS, UPSC and other recruitment exams, it can be studied with static points on skill development, AI education and government efforts. The main recall point is that the #SkillTheNation Challenge was launched under the SOAR initiative at the same event where AI certificates were also conferred on students and MPs.
