The Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on March 25, 2026. The bill proposes amendments to the legislative framework governing India's Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), which include the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and National Security Guard (NSG).

The CAPF Amendment Bill 2026 seeks to address service conditions, disciplinary proceedings, and command structures within these forces. Key proposed changes include streamlining appeal mechanisms for personnel facing disciplinary action, provisions for enhanced medical and welfare benefits, and clarifications around deployment authority in border and internal security contexts.

The introduction of the bill in the Upper House on March 25 preceded its expected passage in subsequent sessions. The bill follows a series of recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs' working group on CAPF modernisation and aligns with the government's broader thrust toward reforming internal security institutions.

CAPFs are under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs and play a critical role in border management, counter-insurgency, and disaster relief operations. As of 2025, the combined strength of all CAPFs exceeds 10 lakh personnel, making them among the largest paramilitary forces in the world. The bill is expected to modernise their legal framework, last substantially updated in the 1960s–70s.
