India, Australia and Canada on 22 November 2025 launched the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, a new trilateral mechanism announced through a joint statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office during the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg. The Press Information Bureau release, posted at 9:21 PM, confirms the three sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on critical and emerging technologies, complementing existing bilateral initiatives between the countries. The Partnership will draw on the natural strengths of the three economies, with an explicit emphasis on green energy innovation and building resilient supply chains, including in critical minerals. It is designed to deepen strategic collaboration towards net-zero commitments and drive diversification of supply chains toward a secure, sustainable and resilient future. A specific workstream will also examine the development and mass adoption of artificial intelligence to improve citizens' lives. The three governments agreed that officials will convene in the first quarter of 2026 to take the initiative forward and operationalise the framework. The launch comes against the backdrop of India's parallel outreach at the G20 on equity for the Global South, and builds on the bilateral Australia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and renewed India-Canada engagement under PM Mark Carney. Analysts view ACITI as a minilateral alternative to larger groupings, focused on critical minerals security and AI governance.
