The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched the 'Passport Verification Records (PVR)' feature on the DigiLocker platform on December 4, 2025. This feature allows citizens to access and store their passport verification records digitally, eliminating the need for physical documents during police verification processes for passport applications. DigiLocker, launched in 2015 under India's Digital India programme, has over 30 crore registered users and stores 700+ crore documents for 2,400+ issuers. The PVR integration marks a significant step in digitising the passport issuance workflow — currently, police verification (the process of confirming a passport applicant's address and antecedents) involves physical forms and manual submission. The digitalisation of PVR will reduce processing time, improve transparency, and minimise intermediary corruption in the passport verification system. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of External Affairs' e-Passport programme (chip-embedded passports) and the broader Digital India framework. Rajasthan has been a key participant in DigiLocker adoption — several Rajasthan government documents including domicile certificates, caste certificates, and Jan Aadhar cards are now accessible via DigiLocker.
