The Indian Air Force (IAF) arrived in France on November 10, 2025, to participate in Exercise Garuda 2025 — a biennial bilateral air combat training exercise between the Indian Air Force and the French Air and Space Force (Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace). The exercise runs from November 16 to 27, 2025. India deployed its multi-role Su-30 MKI fighter jets, while France flew Rafale jets — the same aircraft India operates through its 36-aircraft Rafale deal signed in 2016. Exercise Garuda, first held in 2003, is a marquee event in India-France defence cooperation. Key objectives include: enhancing air combat interoperability; sharing tactical best practices in air-to-air and air-to-ground missions; joint logistics and CASEVAC exercises. The exercise is conducted in the context of the India-France Strategic Partnership — elevated to a Horizon 2047 Roadmap — and follows France's significant role as a strategic partner in India's defence modernisation, supplying Rafales to the IAF and submarines (Scorpène class) to the Indian Navy.
