Rajasthan became the first state in India to introduce a mental health and well-being initiative for primary students (classes 1-5) called 'Khushi Shala', as announced on November 13, 2025, by the Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT).

The programme includes mindfulness exercises, compassion development, and self-discovery guidance. A pilot phase in 2024 covered 30 schools each in Sirohi and Banswara districts with 120 trained teachers. The target is 12,000 teachers trained statewide by December 2025, with at least one trained teacher per panchayat. Handbooks were developed with Kshamtalaya Foundation and Brio (US-based non-profit). Mobile-friendly handbook versions launch in December 2025.
