Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced targets to expand domestic defence manufacturing to ₹3 lakh crore and boost defence exports to ₹50,000 crore by 2029, as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. India's defence production has already crossed ₹1.27 lakh crore in 2024-25, with the private sector contributing 21% of total production.

India now exports defence equipment to over 100 countries. Major export items include BrahMos missiles (Philippines), Tejas LCA interest from multiple countries, and Akash missile systems.
