The Uttar Pradesh government began examining the feasibility of creating a proposed district named Kalyan Singh Nagar from parts of Aligarh and Bulandshahr in October 2025. Indian Express reported that, following a request from former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh's son Rajveer Singh, the Revenue Board had asked the District Magistrates of Aligarh and Bulandshahr to conduct a survey and submit reports; the proposed area involved the Atrauli and Gangiri blocks of Aligarh and Dibai in Bulandshahr. An Aligarh official described it as a "very preliminary exercise". Official UP material continued to list 75 districts, so the proposal should not be stated as an already created 76th district.

The proposed name honours former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, a prominent OBC leader who served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1991-92 and again in 1997-99, and later as Governor of Rajasthan (2014-2019). He passed away in August 2021.
