On February 4, 2026, Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur by Governor Ajay Bhalla at Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan), Imphal. President Droupadi Murmu revoked the President's Rule in Manipur effective February 4, 2026, ending approximately 12 months of direct central administration. President's Rule had been imposed on February 13, 2025, following the resignation of N. Biren Singh's BJP-led government on February 9, 2025, amid prolonged ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

Khemchand Singh, a senior BJP leader, was elected as the BJP Legislative Party leader in New Delhi on February 3, 2026. Along with him, Kuki BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen and Naga People's Front (NPF) MLA Losii Dikho were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers — a three-community power-sharing arrangement designed to represent Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities. BJP's Govindas Konthoujam and K. Loken Singh of the National People's Party (NPP) were also inducted as cabinet ministers.

The formation of the new government is considered a significant step toward restoring normalcy in a state that witnessed over two years of inter-community violence. For RPSC RAS, this is important under federal relations, governance, and Article 356 of the Constitution.
