Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that India registered a 22.6% rise in renewable energy capacity to 266.78 GW in 2025, with an addition of 49.12 GW — the highest-ever annual expansion. Solar capacity reached 135.81 GW (up from 97.86 GW, a 38.8% growth), while wind energy grew from 48.16 GW to 54.51 GW.

Solar capacity additions of 34.98 GW were nearly double the previous year's 20.85 GW. India has committed to 500 GW renewable energy by 2030 under its Paris Agreement pledges. Rajasthan remains a key contributor with its massive solar parks in Bhadla (2,245 MW capacity) and expanding wind corridors in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts.
