The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the GATI Foundation to strengthen institutional mechanisms for overseas employment and global skill mobility of skilled Indian workers. GATI stands for Global Access to Talent from India, and the partnership is linked to the goal of positioning India as the global skills capital by 2047.
The agreement is not limited to sending workers abroad. Its focus is on building a structured ecosystem for global skill mobility through skill preparation, language capability, cultural readiness, documentation support and better understanding of international labour-market demand. MSDE and GATI Foundation will work on identifying high-demand international job roles, priority destination countries and sectoral opportunities for skilled Indian workers. This makes the initiative relevant to employment policy as well as to the wider skilling agenda.
Under the arrangement, GATI Foundation will set up a Project Management Unit at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi. The unit will provide technical and strategic support to the Ministry in research, monitoring frameworks, international partnerships and initiatives related to global skill mobility. The collaboration will also support Skill India International Centres, strengthen links with training institutions such as ITIs and polytechnics, and facilitate engagement with global employers to improve international placement opportunities for skilled youth.
For exam preparation, the MoU works as an example of skill-led growth, human-capital formation, safe migration and the employment-oriented strategy behind the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. In prelims, questions may focus on the ministry, the partner organisation, the purpose of the MoU, the 2047 target and the institutional mechanisms. In mains, it can be used as an example of skill-led growth, demographic dividend and structured overseas employment pathways.
