Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Mahi-Banswara Nuclear Power Plant in Rajasthan on September 25, 2025, alongside inaugurating other projects worth over ₹1.21 lakh crore. The nuclear plant will be built on a 1,366-acre site with an installed capacity of 2,800 MW, featuring four indigenous 700 MWe Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs).

The project, valued at approximately ₹42,000 crore, is expected to be completed by 2036. India's nuclear power capacity stood at 8.78 GW in 2026, with targets of 22.38 GW by 2031-32 and 100 GW by 2047. The Banswara plant will be a significant boost to Rajasthan's power generation capacity and supports India's clean energy transition goals under the Paris Agreement.
