The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 46,640 smuggled Chinese firecrackers valued at ₹4.82 crore at Nhava Sheva (JNPT) port under its ongoing 'Operation Fire Trail', a nationwide anti-smuggling initiative launched ahead of Diwali to detect and prevent illegal import of foreign-origin firecrackers violating safety regulations.

Chinese firecrackers, banned in India due to non-compliance with PESO safety norms and excessive levels of toxic chemicals like barium nitrate and sulphur, pose significant health and environmental risks. The operation covers major ports, airports, and border checkpoints across India. Rajasthan's land border areas and Jaipur's wholesale cracker markets have been under enhanced surveillance during the festive season.
