The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) notified the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Amendment Regulations, 2026 on March 10, 2026. The key reform introduces perpetual licence validity — FSSAI licences and registrations will now remain valid indefinitely until suspended, cancelled or surrendered, eliminating periodic renewals. A risk-based inspection and third-party audit system has been established. Street food vendors registered under the Street Vendors Act, 2014 are now deemed FSSAI-registered. Revised turnover thresholds take effect from April 1, 2026, with food businesses up to ₹1.5 crore annual turnover requiring only FSSAI Registration. A separate January 2026 draft notification had proposed that manufacturing food businesses maintain daily records of production and raw material utilisation; this requirement was not listed among the key reforms notified in the March 10, 2026 final amendment.
