A comprehensive audit of FSSAI's food safety enforcement over three years (2022-25) revealed that 5.18 lakh food samples were tested, resulting in 88,192 penalties, 3,614 convictions, and 1,161 licences cancelled. FSSAI has deployed 305 mobile testing labs ('Food Safety on Wheels') across 35 States and UTs for rapid on-site testing. A Risk-Based Inspection System has been implemented to prioritize enforcement against high-risk food businesses. The data was presented in the context of growing public concern over food adulteration and the need for stronger regulatory oversight in India's ₹43 lakh crore food industry.
