The International Energy Agency (IEA) released its report 'Delivering Sustainable Fuels: Pathways to 2035', projecting that global sustainable fuel use could quadruple by 2035. Current sustainable fuels reduce global oil demand by approximately 2.5 million barrels daily. Projected cumulative investment required is USD 1.5 trillion, creating approximately 2 million direct jobs globally.

India is positioned to play a major role in the transition, with its National Green Hydrogen Mission targeting 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen production by 2030 and its ethanol blending programme having achieved 20% blending in petrol in 2025, five years ahead of the original target. Rajasthan is emerging as a key state for biofuel production with its vast tracts of jatropha and castor cultivation in western districts.
