Chief Justice of India Surya Kant virtually inaugurated India's first fully paperless district court system in Kalpetta, Wayanad district of Kerala on January 6, 2026. All courts in the district judiciary will function entirely without paper, from filing to final orders, using the District Court Case Management System (DCMS) developed in-house by the Kerala High Court.

The system integrates advanced AI tools for case summaries and transcriptions. CJI Kant described it as a step towards 'green jurisprudence' and democratizing the justice delivery system. Filings are received electronically, scrutinized digitally, and instantly accessible to judges. The initiative aligns with the e-Courts Phase III project and could serve as a model for digitizing India's 25,000+ district courts.
